Homemade Croutons

I love croutons but when I had my braces on I rarely could enjoy them due to them being so dense/hard. But even more so most commercial croutons are overly salty and cost too much. This is a quick and easy way to use up lunch bread that is going stale. I used buttermilk bread, pretty much anything works that you like the taste of.

To cut back the sodium levels I used unsalted butter, bread is pretty high to start off with. I used a salt-free seasoning blend from Trader Joe’s, Mrs. Dash© blends also work well.

Homemade Croutons

Ingredients:

3 large pieces of bread

1 Tbsp unsalted butter

salt-free seasoning blend of choice

Directions:

Leave the bread on a plate to stale out a bit for a couple hours.

Heat your oven to 350° and get out a non-stick baking sheet. Thinly trim the crusts off the bread and discard. Melt the butter and brush on both sides of the bread. Sprinkle seasoning liberally on both sides.

Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until toasty golden.

Remove off the sheet onto a wire rack to avoid it getting soggy immediately.
