Released in August, 750 Best Appetizers: From Dips and Salsas to Spreads and Shooters, is an impressive cookbook – especially for those who love entertaining or doing ‘small plates’.
The cookbook has a variety of recipes from drinks to desserts, flatbreads, vegetarian friendly treats, meat and seafood and so much more. The bar noshes section is especially fun, if one loves doing deep-frying. And while many of the recipes are ‘show-off’ dishes they are for the most part easy to make, even for beginners. The recipes are well written (the publisher Robert Rose does lovely cookbooks that I adore collecting). I tried out one of the Lassi drink recipes, doing the Banana one, on page 110. I adapted the recipe so that Walker would like it (I added a bit of sweetener) and used non-fat yogurt (natural style) to control the cholesterol. Smooth, creamy and delicious! Walker loved his cup and happily sipped it down.
On the sugar added – my bananas were pretty firm, riper ones might have been sweeter. So taste before adding sugar.
- 3 medium banana, ripe
- 1 cup plain yogurt (used all natural non-fat)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 1-2 Tbsp granulated sugar, if desired
Add the yogurt and buttermilk to a blender, break the bananas up and add. Blend on high until smooth. Add in the ice and process until smooth, taste for sweetness and blend in sugar if desired.
Leftovers can be refrigerated and enjoyed later.
Serves 3 to 4.
