Making Better Choices Through The Year (& A Giveaway)

I have been participating in the Blog Forward 2014 Challenge hosted by Zone PerfectIn mid-January I wrote a post on my other blog, TrailCooking, about creating and making goals I could stick with – and that would be healthier for me in the long run. My goals I listed were ones where I would be ready for the outdoors once Spring came. Overall I am happy with how my goals are going, but I also realize that it isn’t something you can quit doing. Anything I pick up has to become a way of life. And over the past few years, we have done well, at least to me we have. Our way of eating has changed so much!

Drinks have been and will probably always be a problem for me. I “love” people who are “I JUST LOVE water!”. Sure……but I have noticed that a tiny bit of lemonade can flavor a huge glass of water and I’ll happily drink unsweetened ice tea all day. Now giving up on lattes? No. Not going to happen ;-)

Postable - Condiment Swaps

These tips? Oh yes. I could eat mashed avocado on toasted bread for lunch all the time!

All 3 of these we enjoy doing. Just say sunflowers instead of walnuts.

I’ll admit I am not a fan of spaghetti squash, and I would suggest beans instead of meat ;-)

All 4 of these I love. Color and great nutritional stats. I love doing mashed potatoes with half potatoes/half cauliflower.

  3. I don’t swap much–I just use fresh, whole, healthy foods. (And if you make your own breadcrumbs, you don’t get all the salt and preservatives!)

  8. I love the swap of sour cream for greek yogurt, though sometimes I also just use tofu, and mashed cauliflower or used quinoa several times. I hadn’t thought of rolled oats for breadcrumbs, that’s a good one! I admit I didn’t used to like tofu, but the really fresh tofu you can get here in Portland is surprisingly good that I might even snack on a broken large chopped piece!

    I put beans (black or pinto) in everything since they are full of fiber, protein and pretty cheap to buy. I even found a black bean brownie recipe that tasted great!
